1) Avocados

The flavor of avocados will be diminished if they are refrigerated, so refrigerate them only if they are fully ripe and you need them for a further day or two.

2) Bananas

Refrigeration confuses bananas since the fruit stops ripening but the exterior darkens more quickly. Keep bananas ripe by storing them at room temperature.

3) Bread

Since bread can dry up and get stale when stored in the refrigerator, it is preferable to enjoy it fresh rather than freeze it.

4) Butternut squash

As long as they are kept in a cool, dark location for up to one month, butternut squash can be stored without refrigeration.

5) Cake

A cake simply needs to be chilled for around 15 minutes in the fridge for the frosting or icing to harden.

6) Chocolate

In case you didn't know, chocolate may become gray over time. This is known as "chocolate bloom," and it occurs when sugar crystals form on the surface of the bar.

7) Coffee

There is no benefit to storing coffee in the fridge, and the beans or grounds will take on new flavors as a result.

8) Cucumber

After slicing your cucumber, put it in the fridge to keep it fresh (ideally wrapped in a damp paper towel). But until then, it's probably best not to include it.

+ + +

9) Garlic

Keep garlic at room temperature, just as it was sold to you. It's best to store the whole bulb at room temperature in the pantry until you're ready to use it.

10) Herbs

When fresh herbs are refrigerated, they lose their flavor and freshness in the same way that bread does. Keep them stem-side down in water to extend their lives.
